Earlier in the year we secured funding through Berkshire Community Foundation for a Book Anthology created by the writer Susan Rollings. The finished result is amazing and something that the Young Carers are very proud of indeed. We have a sample from Susan’s website below.

Young Carers West Berkshire
Book Project
“This Book project was aimed at giving young carers a voice; providing young carers with the opportunity to work with a published author and create a fictional story about the different challenges that young carers face on a daily basis. This project has provided us with a collection of short stories that we hope will help other young carers to identify they are not alone and can come forward to benefit from the support that Young Carers West Berkshire can offer.”

You can read all of their wonderful stories below!
West Berkshire Young Carers Project.
Young carers are children and young people under 18 who take on caring tasks and responsibilities within their family that are usually taken on adults. This might happen when there is a family member, maybe a parent, brother or sister who needs a lot of care. They may be suffering with physical disability, a progressive disease, mental health difficulty or a substance misuse problem. Everybody’s family is different and although It can be hugely rewarding to care and help a family member cope, a young person should still be able to relax, have some fun and find support through other young carers. This is what the Young Carers project is all about, providing professionally trained staff to support a safe environment for young people to regularly meet up outside of school and home demands.
