This little owl was first knitted by FOYC-Webs Trustee Elaine, whose husband Jerry, on thinking that she might get bored during her retirement, gave her a Let’s Knit magazine!!
We have now adopted SIDNEY as our Charity Mascot and, in a short space of time, he has become very popular and quite a celebrity!
More SIDNEYS have landed in West Berkshire having flown from as far away as Lancashire, East Sussex and Cornwall. We love this, as our aim is to give every Young Carer in the region their own SIDNEY and, we shall also be selling them to raise money and awareness at our events.
So, if you would like to knit a SIDNEY for us, then click here to download the pattern pages. Then, if you can bear to part with him, please send to: Joan Ball, Castlegate Outreach Team/Young Carers, Castlegate, Love Lane, Newbury, Berks RG14 2JG
THE SIDNEYS ON A PHOTOS-HOOT!
So busy today on our first ‘owlting’ to some iconic places in West Berkshire.
The day began in Hungerford on the ‘Rose of Hungerford’ Canal Barge – www.roseofhungerford.co.uk The ducks and swans were very curious and so were the pedestrians on the bridge! Next to Lambourn and a photo opportunity with a beautiful four legged friend at Harry Dunlop Racing Yard – www.harrydunlopracing.com I think she really liked this SIDNEY! Then a whistle stop photo at the Saddlery – www.ejwicks.co.uk and off we headed back to The Watermill Theatre in Newbury – www.watermill.org.uk What a beautiful setting and we met a very friendly dog who wanted to get in on the ‘act’ too!
Finally, with tired wings, we arrived at Donnington Castle www.english-heritage.org.uk The light was fading but we think we look rather dashing against the backdrop of this civil war stronghold originally built in 1386.
We will soon be visiting the east of our region so look out for us in Thatcham, Aldermaston, Theale and Calcot. You never know where we might pop up!!
WHERE IN THE WORLD??
One lucky SIDNEY has also been on holiday recently. Can you guess where in the world he is? Clue: A city that is in two continents.
If you travel to far flung places then how about taking SIDNEY with you and then sending in your photos to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org. Let us know if want us to send you a SIDNEY to pop in your luggage!
